Any student interested in joining a club is asked to listen to the daily announcements for meeting dates and times. Review the activities calendar for these dates.

Parents overwhelmingly voted to keep RMS a mandatory Uniform school. If students come to school without the proper uniform, they will be asked to call their parents and have them bring the uniform. Avoid this aggravation by making sure your children wear their uniform daily. The Student Services department is in need of belts, uniform pants, and uniform shirts. If your child has outgrown his/her uniform, please donate it.

2007-2008 Mandatory Uniform Policy:
  • Khaki or dark brown uniform pants
    • No jeans, corduroy pants, elastic pants, baggy pants, bell-bottoms, cargo pants, Capri pants, drawstring pants, or pedal-pushers
  • White, gold, or two-tone polo shirt
    • Tucked in with monogrammed letter RMS on the left sleeve
  • Belt and closed shoes
    • No sandals or open toe shoes, no platform shoes
  • RMS jacket (gold, black, beige, white or brown) can be bought at school from the PTSA or at the uniform store
  • Rockway Club/Team/Sport T-shirts may only be worn on Fridays. If there is no school on Friday, students will not be able to wear their Rockway Club/Team/Sport T-shirt that week.

Ibiley Uniform Company is the recommended vendor. However, parents may purchase the uniform at any department store.

The Student Service department is in need of belts, uniform pants, and uniform shirts. Please help us by donating uniform items that your child has outgrown.

In keeping with District goals we will once again implement our Comprehensive Reading Plan. Students will be reading in school for 30 daily in their classes as follows:
READING SCHEDULE

PERIOD 3

TUESDAY

PERIOD 2

WEDNESDAY

PERIOD 1

THURSDAY

PERIOD 6

FRIDAY

PERIOD 5

Apart from reading for 30 minutes in school, students are to be reading for 30 minutes at home daily. Please help us by monitoring your child's daily reading. In order to assist us in making this program a success, please make sure your child has a book to read in class daily. Students may check out books from our library, their teachers or the public library. Together with your support we are confident this will once again be a successful program.
RMS schools hours are 9:00 A.M. to 3:40 P.M. Please make sure your child arrives by 8:55 A.M. Students need to be in their seats by 9:00 A.M. Any students that arrives late to homeroom will need to go to the cafeteria to get a tardy admit. Students who are tardy to school three times will be issued an administrative detention to be served after school. Please make sure your child is picked up at 3:40 P.M. daily as there is no supervision after school. Many students are dropped off early but walk off school. Rockway Park is off limits to our students. Parents please discourage your child from going to the park in the morning as there is absolutely no supervision there. Students participating in the sports program should be picked up as soon as practice is over no later than 5:30 PM. Attendance is critical to your child's education. Students that are not in school simply can not learn. While we will do everything to promote attendance through incentives, we need your assistance. Please remember that with our block schedule, for every day that your child is absent, he is missing two days worth of learning. While the class work, labs, quizzes, tests, and notes can be made up, the actual lesson and class discussion can not.Too many students are being picked up early from school, some as early as 9:15 A.M. and others as late as 3:30 P.M. While we are aware that emergencies arise, we ask that whenever possible, please try and schedule appointments after school. Your support and cooperation in keeping with this policy is greatly appreciated. Come to school every day!!!
Please Note: Electronic devices, laser pens, yo-yo's, caps, etc..., are not permitted in school. Students who bring these items to school will have them confiscated. Confiscated items will only be returned to the parents/guardians upon pick up.

Be an informed Parent ask your child what benchmarks have been covered in their classes!
Parents, please refrain from driving through or parking inside the gated parking lot. These parking spaces are reserved for teachers. Students are not to walk through the Parking lot, this presents a safety hazard.
